This production is a musical parody of “The Walking Dead” done with puppets. As such, familiarity with the television show and the characters being parodied is key. The score has a big range from traditional musical theatre to rap to stadium rock to reggae – so we need strong singers with an even stronger sense of humor and parody. This is an initial engagement, gearing up towards a multi-city tour with dates/details in formation.

SEEKING:

All performers should be singers with STRONG comedy skills. Improv backgrounds are major plus – please note experience if applicable. Puppetry background a plus, but not required.
[NICK – ACTOR #1] male, non-Equity, any age/any ethnicity. Must be physically capable (puppeteering) and a strong singer. Should be an impressive rock tenor – sings in a stadium rock “Nickelback meets Kid Rock” style. Plays NICK, 30s-40s. An overwrought Sheriff. He would not have been miscast in Deadwood. He is obsessed with being a leader and protecting his family. He is also kind of thick-headed and overlooks or doesn’t comprehend simple facts that are presented to him. Mimic the vocal mannerisms of Rick on Walking Dead. ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE NON-EQUITY.

[LAUREL – ACTOR #2] female, non-Equity, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Must be physically capable (puppeteering) and a strong singer, with good musicianship and GREAT comedy ability. A high strung housewife who is not equipped for the apocalypse. She is trying to maintain some normalcy with her husband and son. She is pregnant but keeping it secret. She is smarter than the males around her but defers to them. When frustrated by them she comments to whomever is listening on the real world as she sees it now. ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE NON-EQUITY.

[ACTOR #3/ CHARLES] male, 18+ to play teenager, non-Equity, any ethnicity. Must be physically capable (puppeteering) and a strong singer. An emo teen who is sullenly going through adolescence in the Zombie Apocalypse. A bit whiny and eager to become a man. Falls in love with a teen girl and is tortured by his parents over protective nature. More active and expressive than his TV counterpart. A teen with aspirations and in fact our protagonist. ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE NON-EQUITY.

[ACTOR #4 DOYLE/HERSHEY] male, non-Equity, any age/any ethnicity. Must be physically capable (puppeteering) and good character singer. Plays a grumpy yet lovable old man in a hat. He is clueless but opinionated. HERSHEY is a white bearded patriarch with a farm. He has secretly filled his barn with his dead neighbors. He has one daughter who is dead and one who is still alive. He initially fights Nick to be the leader. After leaving his farm in Act 2 he has an abrupt character change to more hippie elder. ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE NON-EQUITY.

[ACTOR #5/T-BONE/CHIMONNE] female, non-Equity, 20s-30s, African-American. An amazing R&B voice – has a big solo. Must be physically capable (puppeteering). Plays CHIMONNE, a butt-kicking female ninja with a Katana sword. Much more badass than anyone (except maybe Darth, with whom she bonds). She survived alone until meeting our group in Act 2. Also plays (male character played by female) T-BONE: he is aware that he is being marginalized by the group. He has great ideas that are ignored and keeps a deadly secret after he is bit by a zombie. ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE NON-EQUITY.

[ACTOR #6/DARTH] male, non-Equity, to play late 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Must be physically capable (puppeteering) and a good singer. The James Dean cool biker of our crew. He secretly writes haiku poetry. A badass superhero in a fight. ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE NON-EQUITY.

[ACTOR #7/MADDIE] female, non-Equity, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Must be physically capable (puppeteering) and a good singer. Maddie is the ingenue of our musical and is not directly modeled on the TV show but a hybrid in that she is kick-ass but also a teen looking for love. Maddie is the daughter of Hershey and teen love interest of Charles. In keeping with her role as ingenue she is perkier than one would expect in the zombie apocalypse. ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE NON-EQUITY.

[FEMALE SWING] female, non-Equity, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Covers all female roles. ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE NON-EQUITY.

[MALE SWING] male, non-Equity, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. Covers all male roles. ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE NON-EQUITY.
